Steps to Becoming a Better Golfer

By: Jack Landry

Golfing is a lifetime sport. In other words there is always something every golfer can work on improving.

When you live in an area that has access to great golfing courses, such as St. George, it is likely that a lot of your recreational time will be spent golfing. The more you golf the more you want to work to improve your golfing.

In this article, we will discuss several ways each one of us can work to improve our golf swing, putt, or other aspects of the game of golf that need attention and improvement.

First, the key to becoming a better golfer is to practice. This means make time in your schedule to spend at the golf course working on whatever you need to.

We have all heard the phrase practice makes perfect. While in golf it may not make perfect but it will definitely make better.

Also, when you put in the time to practice something it shows that you are committed to it. When you are committed you have the desire to get better.

When it comes to golf, muscle memory plays a large role in developing your swing in both your long and short game. When you practice the correct swings you will be able to become a much better golfer.

Second, hire a teacher. This is an important step even if you have been golfing for years.

We are creatures of habit. This can be problematic when a swing was learned incorrectly from the beginning and as a result your golfing is all out of whack.

A teacher can help you identify these faults and correct them. This will greatly help you improve your swing and overall golf game.

Teachers are also helpful because they will assist you step by step to become a better player. They are trained to help people learn how to play the game and most do a good job.

Third, play with better players than you. This will help you to try harder when you play as well as help you learn more from observation. Hopefully you will be able to incorporate your observations into your own game.

Fourth, keep trying. Sometimes golf can be extremely frustrating. There will be times you want to quit and there will be times you'll want just to use the old swing again.

Some days you won't hit anything right, other days the weather will not cooperate, and the sand trap seems like your only friend. When these days come just remember that everyone has off days and that your golfing game will get better.

When your having a good golfing day the sound of the club hitting the ball will be like music to your ears, the flag seems like your only target, and even the grass looks greener. These are the days every golfer looks forward to; the days when your swing is on and you are hitting the ball right where you want it to go.

Fifth, live in a place where you can enjoy golfing year round. There are many places that offer scenic golf resorts.

One of these is St. George, Utah. This area has many different golf courses to get you out on the turf practicing your swing nearly every day of the year.

Sixth, love the game of golf. When you love something it naturally shows in your actions. This will help you be more committed and dedicated to the game making you a better player.

When you stick to something like golf you will be able to continually improve giving you a hobby that you both love and are good at.
