How to Cure a Golf Slice - Read More About it
By: John Cunningham
A golf slice a type of shot in which the ball curves in the shape of a banana. It starts out from the left of the target and then it bends dramatically back to the right of the target, this is a position achieved by the right-handed golfers and it is the reverse for the left-handed golfers. The shape of the slice trajectory affects this; the slice is at times colloquially called the "banana ball". It is the most common misfit of amateur golfers.
With a slice the ball often starts out of the target line before actually sweeping back right and winding back right and winding up well right of the set target. There are a few tips that can be followed to cure a Golf Slice. The first step is diagnosing the slice and this is with special emphasis to the grip. The hand especially the left hand should not be too far to the left so that it forms the pattern v such that the knuckle and the thumb on both hands should point between your right shoulder and right ear. Next, align the shoulders and feet so that they are not aligned too far to the left of the target. The ball position should also be in play and should be near the stance and not too far.
To sure a golf slice you also need to check on the set up, that is check if your feet are often aligned too far too the left of the target line, this should not be the case at any one time the feet should be aligned at right angles with the target line. Then you need to check on the back swing. This means that you do not take the club too far back so that you do not push the club away from you. This will go along with the laying off at the top. In addition, a down swing can actually result into the ball forming a slice. The arms are usually pushed away at this transition causing the club approach the ball from outside the target line. There could also be a blocking of the wrists through impact that prevents the club from turning over.
Once the shoulders are dropped, your club is now free to follow the hip turn through the impact. The hip rotates and it does so from side to side and from the inside, to the inside and this allows the cub to follows. On the outside to the inside of the path there is no connection between the arms and the hips this is the point where you can do the waggle, which helps the hips and you in actually executing a shot. You see there is no separation between the hands and the hips at or shortly after the impact and how the arms will pull the body. Golf is sport that requires one to be astute at all times, it is a gentle solo sport so the more you are coordinated with your limbs the better you will play, and this is the cure for a golf slice.
