Golf Chipping Aids - Improving Your Short Game

By: MICHAEL MANZELLA

Your short game is just as important as the rest of your skills. One of the important golf chipping aids is planning for those times when you're just off the green and must chip the ball. This skill is needed when you are a mere number of yards or even closer to the hole. The actual hit is one that is a low or small curve. The concept is that when you hit the ball it is lifted slightly and then lands onto the putting green. Once it lands, the ball should roll the remaining distance required.

Another important of the golf chipping aids is to know when to use the chip shot and which club to use. This means that although a powerful and precise shot, it is not always the right one. If you are in a bunker or an extremely overgrown area then you would not go for the chip shot. This is when you break out the sand wedge. The club most professional golfers tend to use for chipping is the 7- or 8- iron. However, this is a very personal choice and the only one who can decide this is you.

Simply practicing is one of the effective golf chipping aids. There are a few things to keep in mind while attempting to practice your chip method. First off keep in mind that the ball should travel through the air for a short time and then roll along the ground for a long time. It is very much like a putting stroke, even though you use less twisting of the wrist to perform the chip. Do not try to get extra height because it may throw the arc completely off track. Try a different stroke if it's too high. If you can't get the right swing then try a different club.

Changing up your practice routine is another of the important golf chipping aids. Start with the dirt surface first. Move onto practicing on a harder surface such as a sidewalk. Be sure to use an old club that you don't mind damaging because you will mostly likely hit the ground before the ball. Don't be discouraged because this is a common problem for most golfers. Once you've perfecting these shots consider moving to a downward slope area. This will seem very difficult at first but will improve your score on the more level green area tremendously.
